Who We Are

Our story starts way back, when MaheJabeen Ahmed started her journey as a Volunteer .

Kolkata Hunar,a non-governmental organization ,Registered in the year 2016 under the West Bengal Societies Act xxvi of 1961. Our aim is to focus on the holistic development for needy underprivileged individuals through various services and events so that they can contribute effectively at a personal, professional and societal level.

We constantly strive to support and empower individuals, particularly underprivileged women & children enabling them to meet basic ambitions of their life and realize their potential, make informed choices, resist oppression, fight for rightful existence and facilitate new possibilities and opportunities for them. We believe that stronger women will create a safer and better world. The most alluring thing is Women power and having confidence to change the World.  So, we help them to build their confidence to stand in this Society.

We have been working towards the betterment of any needy community of Kolkata for many years, we  also taken up various social causes that we believe are necessary for the holistic development of the community. One of the primary issues that we have been working on is the feeding of the poor and the distribution of nutrients for malnourished individuals. Our organization believes that it is crucial to address this issue as malnutrition can lead to various health issues that canaffect the overall development of individuals. Last year, We had successfully distributed nutrient-rich meals to the underprivileged communities in Kolkata under Zomato Feeding India program & distribution of tons of Horlicks to the needy community which helps them to provide better nutrition and a healthy environment.

In addition to feeding the poor, our organization has also taken up various educational programs to help individuals develop their skills and secure better job opportunities. We believe that education is a critical aspect of the overall development of an individual and can help individuals break the cycle of poverty. Our programs focus on providing vocational training, skill development, and other necessary education to help individuals secure better livelihoods.We would like to collaborate with any corporates to provide educational programs to the community. We believe that this platform can help us to reach more individuals and provide them with better job opportunities. By working together, we can create a more significant impact and help more individuals secure better livelihoods.

About 1.5 million people in Kolkata (1/3rd of the total population) live in slums there are thousands of children who are out of school, mostly lives in slums and remote rural areas . Girls in slums and rural areas are out of school as they are engaged in domestic work or do not go to school to take care of the younger siblings. Boys drop out of school to supplement household incomes. Lack of healthcare facilities, absence of toilets in schools, and lack of proper nutrition also lead to an increase in drop-out rates.

Our Mission is  to start  Slum to School, the education program is already on board, we provides basic education and healthcare to underprivileged children, with the belief that education is both the means as well as the end to a better life because it empowers an individual to earn his/her livelihood while also increasing one’s awareness on a range of issues; in the process helping him/her evolve as a better citizen .

Over the past 7 years, Our free beautician programme ensures young girl students from slums and rural areas who drop out of school receive skill training. This is done to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of skilled manpower in the fast-emerging services of beauticians. More than 2,000 girls have been trained through our programme and 1,000+ have also been placed in over the years. Currently associated with ICICI Foundation, JIS for providing 3 – 6 months of Free Skill Development Courses under CSR for Undergraduates / Graduates .Our organization is also committed to promoting cleanliness and hygiene in the community. We believe that it is crucial to address this issues as poor sanitation can lead to various health issues. Our organization has been working on various programs to promote cleanliness and hygiene in the community. We have been successful in creating awareness and providing necessary resources to promote cleanliness and hygiene. We believe that by using right platform can help us to reach a wider audience and create a more significant impact.
